Tammy Reid is the wife of Andy Reid. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is one of the most beloved coaches in the NFL heading into Super Bowl LV, and viewers can expect to his wife Tammy Reid cheering him on at Raymond James Stadium on February 7.

During that same virtual fireside chat, Reid discussed the “four legs” of his journey which led him to reach that lifetime goal.

The first leg was football: “It’s a humbling sport, Reid said. “You can be high and then it’ll knock you down if you get too high. You can be too low and then it’s going to crunch you and keep you down. But then it also teaches you that if you get knocked down to come back up, learn from the mistake that got you knocked down, but come back with even more clarity and the reasons why you might’ve been knocked down.”

As for the other “three legs,” Reid listed faith, both he and his wife are members of The Jesus Christ Church of Latter-Day Saints, family, and the companionship he has with Tammy Reid.

Reid said, “The thing that you cherish the most is the climb — everything that goes into that moment. And then the game. The game was phenomenal. You had the challenges, the ups and downs that we had. These four legs that [we’ve talked about], these are the things that are really the most important things. Not the ring that we’re going to get. Not the celebration. . . but that’s not it. That’s not what it’s all about.”

Reid, who’s been married to Tammy Reid since 1982, have five children together: Britt, 35, who works as the Chiefs assistant linebackers coach under his father, Crosby, Spenser, and Drew Ann. Their eldest son, Garrett, tragically died at age 29 in 2012 from a heroin overdose.

Throughout life’s ups and downs, both personal and professional, Tammy Reid remains her husband’s biggest cheerleader. She even has a special “nickname” for one of the winningest coaches in NFL history.

Criminal Record

On Jan. 30, 2007, in Pennsylvania, Reid was arrested after an incident in which he was accused of pointing a gun at another driver. Reid pled guilty to charges for simple assault, carrying a firearm without a license and possessing a controlled substance without registration. That same day, his brother Garrett – who died from a heroin overdose in 2012 at age 39 – was arrested in another accident involving drug use.

Britt and Garrett Reid were each sentenced to jail in Pennsylvania in November 2007, Britt for eight to 23 months and four years’ probation. The brothers had lived at their parents’ house at the time; the judge who sentenced them said Andy and Tammy Reid’s home didn’t have “any structure there that this court could depend on.”

Britt Reid pled guilty to three more charges stemming from an August 2007 incident in the parking lot of a sporting goods store: driving under the influence of a controlled substance; possessing a controlled substance without registration; and use and possession of drug paraphernalia. He had also been arraigned for careless driving, court records show.

Britt Reid, in his second year as Chiefs outside linebackers assistant, has coached with his father in Kansas City for the last eight seasons. He spent three years as defensive line coach (2016-18), one as assistant defensive line coach (2015) and two as a defensive quality control coach (2013-14).

“It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s a great experience,” Britt Reid said Monday of working for his father. “Growing up as a coach’s kid, you don’t get to see your father that much. Now, coaching for him, I basically see him every day now. So that’s awesome.”

Car Accident

This past Monday, Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid met with the media as part of the buildup to Super Bowl 55.

The 35-year-old assistant discussed how his father, head coach Andy Reid, has “probably got to be harder on me than anyone else.” Of Andy Reid’s three sons, Britt said, he was always most “wired like he is.” And Britt Reid discussed the matchup with Tampa Bay his team was preparing for, how the Chiefs facing the Bucs would be a “heck of a game” and “two great teams battling out.”

It’s a game Britt Reid will now miss.

The collision injured three people, including children ages 5 and 4. The 5-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries, Kansas City police officer Dave Jackson told USA TODAY Sports.

Britt Reid did not travel with the team to Tampa for Super Bowl 55, the team confirmed. The Chiefs issued a statement Friday evening that they were aware of the accident, were “in the process of gathering information” and they had “no further comment at this time.”

Kansas City TV station 41 Action News reported that, according to a search warrant, a Kansas City police officer reported an odor of alcohol. The station also said that according to the warrant, Reid told police he had two to three drinks.

Jackson did not name Reid when he released details to USA TODAY Sports. But he did say “impairment” was being investigated.

This is not Britt Reid’s first run-in with law enforcement.

Reid has been cited by law enforcement for speeding or careless driving on at least three occasions, including in Pennsylvania in 2011 and twice in Missouri. He was cited for exceeding the posted speed limit by 16-19 miles per hour in August 2014, and for exceeding the posted speed limit by 11-15 miles per hour in August 2018, Missouri court records show. He had most recently been ticketed for speeding in September 2019, though a prosecutor dismissed the ticket.
