Desagana N’gagne Diop is a Senegalese professional basketball player who was born on January 30, 1982 in Dakar, Senegal.

He started playing basketball at the age of 15 and averaged 14.6 points, 13.2 rebounds and 8.1 blocks during his senior high school season. This earned him the USA Today Virginia Player of the Year title while he led Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia to a #1 nation ranking with 33-0 win-loss record.

Diop started his professional basketball career when he was drafted directly out of high school by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was the 8th overall pick during the 2001 NBA Draft. He was the fifth player to declare for the draft straight from high school after Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and Ousmane Cisse. He played 193 games in four seasons with the Cavs while averaging 1.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 10.8 minutes per game.

DeSagana Diop then signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks on August 19, 2005. By December 31, 2005, he became a starter for most games. With his strong defensive performance, the team qualified to play in the NBA finals as the Western Conference champion.
