Robert Maraj, 64, was walking down a road in Mineola, Long Island at 6:15 pm (2315 GMT) on Friday when he was struck, the Nassau County Police Department said in a statement. The driver left the crash site and Maraj was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.

“The investigation is ongoing,” the police added.

The statement did not specify Maraj’s relationship with Minaj, but a police spokesperson confirmed that he was her father.

Robert was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away over the weekend. The Homicide Squad is investigating the case and requesting the public’s help in identifying the responsible party. No decent description of the suspect’s vehicle was provided.
