Aaron Johnson spent four seasons with Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Rimouski Oceanic between 1999 and 2003. He finished his junior career with 40 goals and 195 points in 252 games.
During the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected as the fifth round, 85th overall for Columbus Blue Jackets. Before he turned professional, Johnson played for the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch. He left Columbus as a free agent and transferred to New York Islanders during the 2007-2008 season.
