Black Rob Wiki – Black Rob Biography
Black Rob’s real name is Robert Ross was an American rapper who was signed to Bad Boy. He was best known for his hit single “Whoa!”, which reached the Billboard Hot 100. Ross grew up in East Harlem and began rapping between the ages of 11 and 12. He was inspired by the artists he listened to regularly, including Spoonie Gee, Doug E. Fresh, and Slick Rick. When he was 22, he joined his first rap group, the Schizophrenics, though they did not release any albums. He initially rapped under the alias “Bacardi Rob”.
He began associating with the Bad Boy label as early as 1996, appearing on the Bad Boy remix to 112’s “Come See Me”. He was then featured on several Bad Boy releases, including remixes to Total’s “What About Us” (1997) and Faith Evans’s “Love Like This” (1998), the song “24 Hrs. to Life” (1997) from Mase, and albums by Puff Daddy & the Bad Boy Family (1997) and The Notorious B.I.G. (1999). He also made two appearances on Cru’s 1997 album Da Dirty 30, as well as albums by Ol Dirty Bastard, Channel Live, The Madd Rapper, Benzino, Tony Touch, and others. These guest appearances earned him media buzz.

He was released from prison in May 2010 and was interviewed by BET two hours later.
Cause of Death
He died on April 17, 2021, at the age of 51, due to Kidney failure.
Rob reportedly passed away Saturday while hospitalized in Atlanta — this after he was apparently battling kidney failure for quite some time … so says NYC radio personality DJ Self, who posted a video of Rob from his hospital bed speaking on DMX’s death.
Of BR’s passing, wrote on Instagram … “Lord knows I tried to get help …… I’m sad to say RIP to Black Rob.” Self had been with Rob in his final days, posting different clips of the former MC as his health was clearly deteriorating. In one such video, Rob himself explained that he’d been battling health issues for five years … including several strokes and other ailments. It also sounds like Rob might have been homeless too … going on to say he needed “rest.”
It’s pretty heartbreaking to watch … especially since Rob didn’t appear to have reps of his own toward the end. DJ Self made clear he wasn’t representing Rob either, but simply getting his message out.

Another former Bad Boy MC, Mark Curry, also confirmed the sad news of Rob’s passing … posting a teary-eyed video Saturday saying he’d just gotten word, thanking everyone who donated to a GFM campaign in Rob’s name — while publicly asking Rob’s children to get in touch with him … presumably to make funeral arrangements.
