Corden made his acting debut in the monochrome Shane Meadows’ film 24 7: Twenty Four Seven in 1997. He landed in some smaller roles in television drama series such as Hollyoaks and Boyz Unlimited. Later on, he did parts in popular shows such as ‘Fat Friends‘ (2000) along with his future writing partner Ruth Jones and Teachers (2001). He also appeared on the London stage play The History Boys by Alan Bennett.
In 2007, James Corden co-starred with Jones in his own series, the BBC Three sitcom Gavin and Stacey. They both wrote the series where they played as the two friends of the title characters. It was a big hit in the 2007 season that won the British Film Academy awards for the two as the Best Comedy Show. Corden was also awarded as the Best Comedy Actor. Three of the History Boys also made their cameo appearances as Gavin’s stag party friends. The series ran for three seasons until 2010.
During the three seasons of Gavin and Stacey, Corden has also appeared in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (2008), a self-penned film with Matt Horne The Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) and the comedy sketch show Horne and Corden in the same year.
