Kato was born Brian Jerard Kaelin on March 9, 1959 in Milwaukee, WI. As a child, he was nicknamed Kato after the character played by Bruce Lee in the TV Green Hornet. He graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Milwaukee County, WI in 1977. He attended University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire but never graduated. During this time that he created his own talk show called Kato and Friends on the campus TV station. He eventually moved to Hollywood.
Before he was involved in the trial, Kaelin starred in a low budget crime movie Night Shadow (1989). He was also in an early 1990 movie called Beach Fever and had a minor role in National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze 2. In 1995, he appeared in the first episode of MADtv (October), first season of Mr. Show (November). He also had numerous forays in reality TV that included Celebrity Boot Camp (2002), House Guest (2004), Sunset Tan, Reality Bites Back, Gimme My Realtiy Show (2008). He also participated in several game shows such as Russian Roulette, reality dating show BZZZ! and National Lampoon’s Strip Poker. He was also a host on radio and television like KLSX in Los Angeles (1995), co-hosted Eye for an Eye (2005-06), and the video game review show X-Play. He guest-starred in the web series Star-ving and the movie Whacked.
